The Mesothelioma.com Scholarship provides $4,000 annually to one student whose life has been affected by cancer.

Mesothelioma.com presents this award to help students pursue higher education. If you or a close family member has faced cancer, we’d want to hear your story.

Who Mesothelioma Cancer Scholarship Helps

The Mesothelioma.com Scholarship assists students whose lives have been impacted by any sort of cancer, including mesothelioma. The following student types are eligible to apply:

• Those who have had their own cancer diagnosis, current or previous
• Those who have a parent, sibling, immediate family member, or close friend who has battled, or is still fighting, cancer

Mesothelioma.com Scholarship History

A mesothelioma cancer scholarship was presented for the 2015 academic year. The scholarship program was established in memory of Heather Von St. James, a mesothelioma survivor and advocate, and her husband Cameron, who enrolled in college following Heather’s diagnosis.

Scholarship Application Requirements

Students who submit complete applications will be evaluated for the Mesothelioma.com Scholarship.

The application procedure is divided into four steps: determining your eligibility, writing an essay, gathering supplementary papers, and properly structuring and submitting your application.

Step 1: Determine your eligibility.

People stricken by any sort of cancer, including mesothelioma, are eligible to apply for the Mesothelioma.com Scholarship.

In addition to being impacted by cancer, candidates must:

• Enroll full-time in an accredited two- or four-year university, community college, junior college, or graduate degree program in the United States.
• Be a US citizen.
• Be in academic “good standing” with a minimum grade point average of 3.2.
  If you meet these prerequisites, you can apply for the scholarship.

Step 2: Write an essay on your cancer experience.

Applicants must submit a written essay (500–1,000 words) or video submission (4–5 minutes) that answers the following questions:

• How has cancer changed your life and your perspective on your goals?
• How has this challenge shaped who you are now?
• What does this scholarship mean to you?
• Why is it important?

Please add a header with the following information in the upper left corner of your essay paper or the description of your video submission:

• Format
• Student Name
• Date of Submission
• Details of Cancer You Encountered
• Field You Wish to Study

Step 3: Gather Additional Documents

In addition to the essay, please submit the following:

• Unofficial Academic Transcript: Your transcript serves to verify your GPA.
• Proof of enrollment: Eligible applicants are currently enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year university, community college, junior college, or graduate degree program. An official letter validating your enrollment, your current semester’s class schedule, or a bursar bill showing your deposit can all serve as proof of enrollment. If a high school senior has not yet committed to a college, they can submit their acceptance letters.
• A letter of recommendation (LOR): Your LOR should explain why you are the greatest contender to receive the scholarship. Preference will be given to applicants whose letters of recommendation expressly address why they deserve the scholarship. We prefer that students send their letters immediately through our site. If a recommender is not comfortable with this, they can send their letter directly to scholarships@mesothelioma.com. Instruct them to send an email with your full name and the subject “Letter of Recommendation”. The student should next submit a document on the application portal that includes the name of their recommender.
• Honors and volunteer work: This optional document should include any awards you have received and any volunteer work you have done. Please summarize each task in one paper, using one to two sentences. A CV or resume is a suitable substitute.

Step 4: Format and Submit an Application Using Application Forms

Mesothelioma Cancer Scholarship Selection Process

All applications for the Fall 2024 Mesothelioma.com Scholarship must be submitted by March 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

After the deadline, Mesothelioma.com’s staff will review all entries. The winner will be determined based on:

• Commitment to Academic Excellence
• Financial need.
• The candidate had a positive impact on others around them.
• Quality of the provided materials
• Adversity-tested strength

The student who receives the $4,000 scholarship will be notified no later than May 1, 2024. The funds will be disbursed to the student’s school for the Fall 2024 semester.

The winner will then be publicized on Mesothelioma.com’s social network, which has over 50,000 followers.

Mesothelioma.com will exclusively contact the winner of the scholarship.
Any attempt to misrepresent claims in an applicant’s story will lead to automatic disqualification.

Will mesothelioma ever be cured?

There is no established cure for mesothelioma, but some individuals have long-term remission. Combining surgery with another treatment results in remission more frequently than single therapies.

New immunotherapy combinations may get us even closer to a cure. Working with a mesothelioma doctor may boost patients’ chances of survival.

How long can someone live with stage 4 mesothelioma?

Stage 4 mesothelioma is an advanced asbestos cancer that has spread to distant organs. With treatment, patients live an average of 12 to 26 months. Some stage 4 patients’ survival rates have improved thanks to immunotherapy and surgical treatments. Palliative care can also aid with quality of life.

How quickly does mesothelioma progress?

Mesothelioma can progress quickly over months or years, depending on the type and stage of the cancer, the patient’s overall health, and treatment effectiveness.
